Kit Specifications and Capabilities

What is the difference between the HiveRadar WSSK and HiveRadar RDK?

The difference between the HiveRadar WSSK and HiveRadar RDK lies primarily in their intended use and specific components. The HiveRadar WSSK, or Wireless Site Survey Kit, is specifically crafted for conducting APoS surveys. It serves as an all-in-one kit containing all the necessary tools for these surveys. Additionally, it features customizable foam inside the kit, allowing for further customization to accommodate equipment such as the APs you are utilizing. This kit includes a T-bar universal bracket for mounting APs during surveys. On the other hand, the HiveRadar RDK, or Rapid Deployment Kit, contains all the features and components of the WSSK but is designed to support the included outdoor AP (HiveRadar CWG). The RDK includes all the tools needed for fast WiFi deployment in various locations, though it requires a SIM card to be purchased separately with a data plan to be used in conjunction with our AP. Instead of the T-bar universal bracket found in the WSSK, the RDK includes an outdoor magnetic pole mount, tailored for outdoor AP deployment.

Can WSSK be used as a RDK?

Absolutely. You can use your own wifi access point for temp wifi access both indoor or outdoor. The WSSK includes a data-in ethernet port that can be connected to a RJ45 wall jack indoors and outdoors it can be connected to a external 4G/5G or satellite router. If you have your own cellular wireless gateway with a U-bolt then you can purchase our magnetic pole adaptor that increases the diameter of our carbon fiber pole and protects it from damage.

Is it possible to extend the kit to 15ft and/or higher?

No, our kit is designed with a maximum stable height of 12 feet. This limitation is due to several important factors we've considered, including the overall stability of the structure, the weight distribution, and the potential risk of damage to the pole base threads at greater heights. Additionally, it's worth noting that many WiFi engineers often adjust their approach by reducing the power dB settings. This method is a common practice to compensate for the height restriction. By doing so, they effectively manage the signal strength and coverage area, ensuring optimal performance without overextending the structural limits of the kit.

How does the kit have 4G/5G capability?

Our latest WSSK v3 kit has evolved to offer a more flexible approach to 4G/5G connectivity. While the kit no longer includes a built-in 4G/5G-ready router, it features a second RJ45 jack designed for data sourcing. This allows you to connect the kit directly to your switch or to a portable 4G/5G router using an RJ45 cable (as a RDK). The kit then facilitates the pass-through of this connection to an 'out' port, which would be connected to your Access Point. This setup is particularly beneficial for cloud-managed APs that require an internet connection on-site.

Compatibility and Mounting

Is the HiveRadar WSSK v3 compatible with APs from a range of vendors? What PoE power options are available?

Absolutely, our stock kits are engineered to be universally compatible, accommodating nearly all market-available Wi-Fi units with a power draw up to 35W. Brands like Cisco, Aerohive/Extreme, Meraki, Ubiquiti, Aruba, Arista and Ruckus have all been successfully tested. For those with greater power needs, an optional PowerPack PoE++ upgrade is available, which would be able to provide up to 70W. We also have the option of 10G PoE++ for High Capacity / high bandwidth AP’s.

Is it possible to mount any Wi-Fi Access Point?

The HiveRadar WSSK v3 comes equipped with a universal T-Bar mount bracket designed to mimic a ceiling rail. If your Access Point includes a compatible ceiling rail clip, then mounting it is a straightforward affair.

What is the maximum width of the AP that the bracket can fit?

Our standard bracket can accommodate APs up to 10'' wide. Our XL Universal Bracket is an optional upgrade that would be able to fit APs that are up to 13’’ wide.

Can an outdoor pole mount AP be mounted to WSSK?

We have an optional two piece magnetic adaptor that increases the diameter of the carbon fiber pole and also protects the pole from damage. Using the magnetic adaptor you can use the U Bolt included with your outdoor AP. IMP - Please make sure that the AP or Antenna mount does not have a long arm. Depending on the weight and side loading it can compromise the stability and damage the kit.

Usage and Software

How does HiveRadar WSSK compare to other site survey kits on the market?

Firstly, the paramount concern is portability and the manpower needed to transport the equipment. Unlike solutions from other vendors, which are cumbersome and come in multiple boxes and cases, our offering aims to eliminate the need for multiple trips or a two-person team at each survey site—both inefficient and costly options. Secondly, the security of your equipment cannot be overlooked. Existing solutions often come with carry cases that must be left unattended on-site. This leaves your valuable gear susceptible to theft, concealment, or damage—a situation that many have unfortunately experienced. You can also add the optional TSA approved lockable latches and airtag holder to add an Apple air-tag to keep track of your gear.

Is there a specific site survey software that is mandatory to use with your kit?

Not at all! You're free to use any wireless site survey software that suits your needs. While we do offer software as an optional add-on or upon request, the choice is entirely yours.

Practicalities and Logistics

What makes the HiveRadar Kit Airline Carry-on friendly?

The case dimensions and weight meet the maximum dimensions and weight specified by the Airlines. The Included HiveRadar LiFePo4 battery is under 100wh which is the maximum allowable by TSA, FAA, IATA.

Is there a reseller or partner in my country?

Please reach out to us directly, and we'll promptly supply you with the relevant information about resellers or partners in your region.

Can I use my own Fedex/UPS/DHL account for shipping?

Should you prefer to utilise your own DHL, FedEx or UPS account for shipping, you are certainly free to do so. However, it's important to mention that a significant number of our clients have discovered that our negotiated UPS rates are often more cost-effective compared to arranging shipping through either FedEx, DHL, or UPS independently. We encourage you to consider this option, as it might offer better value and convenience for your shipping needs.

Is it possible to arrange payment terms for my international order?

No, all international orders require prepayment. However, if you're purchasing through one of our partners, they may have their own payment terms. Please reach out to us for more information.

Warranty and Customization

What are the warranty terms for the kit?

Our kit, battery, and PoE power pack come with a one-year warranty, safeguarding you against any manufacturing defects. Please note that this warranty doesn't extend to damages or malfunctions resulting from misuse or accidental incidents. In the unlikely event that an issue does arise, rest assured that we will either repair or replace the item under active warranty.

Is it possible to customise the kit for my specific project?

The feasibility of customization hinges on the particulars of your project as well as the quantity. We invite you to contact us directly, so we can provide a more tailored response based on your specific needs.
